Internet Proxy servrs are deployed in most environments for security, performance, and usage tracking purposes. When your application makes a request to a resource on the Internet, the request is often routed through a proxy. The proxy then makes the request on your behalf and forwards the response back to you. This means that your application needs to know what proxy server to use when requesting a resource on the Internet. You can or use an explicit proxy server name or may take advantage of the automatic proxy detection capabilities.

Why a proxy ? to be anonymous

Many malicious hackers scan for IP's trying to hijacked your browser or obtain information such as credit card numbers, bank accounts, and other personal information that doesn't belong to them.

With the help of a proxy server you can eliminate that from happening. Proxy servers such as the ones found on this site can hide your IP from these intruders. These proxies act as a mask so that an ordinary program would not be able to acquire your IP. There are still ways that malicious hackers can obtain your IP and you can find more information about that on this site. Below is a brief description of what Proxy server really does.

Proxies are commonly used for several reasons: security, load balancing, data caching in order to reduce bandwidth demands, and censorship or filtering. Filtering proxies insulate you from objectionable elements of Webpages such as cookies, ad banners, dynamic content like Javascript, Java Applets and ActiveX controls. Some anonymous proxies encrypt your Web communications, protecting you from routine monitoring or even dedicated surveillance. Be careful, though, not all proxies are anonymous! Here is an overview of the basic approaches to proxy:

• Web-based Proxies: Web-based Proxies are powered by server-side softwares such as CGIProxy, PHProxy, Poxy, and custom proxy scripts. These proxies work entirely through a Web browser. Usually all that is needed to hide your IP address and surf anonymously is to visit the service’s homepage in a Web browser and enter a URL (website address) in the form provided. There is no requirement to download or install software or reconfigure your computer. To work, a CGI based proxy must manipulate the document you’ve requested and all its associated elements and objects. This can be tricky, and not all proxies are as efficient or effective as others. • Open Proxies: So-called “open proxies” are HTTP or SOCKS type proxy servers that are accidently or maliciously left “open” and accessible on the Internet. HTTP or SOCKS type proxy servers require that you configure your browser’s proxy settings in order to use them. These proxies have the advantage of being compatible with almost all webpages since they do not have to modify the requested page to keep you anonymous. However, there are several major disavantages to using open proxies. Many utilize computers that are compromised, operated by government agencies, or operated by malicious individuals. Often when an attacker obtains control of an end-user’s computer they will install a proxy server so the machine can be exploited to launch further attacks on other machines. It is also commonplace for open proxies to be operated as “honey pots”, where all actions are logged for forensic research. Open proxies are easy to abuse and there are many people using them to commit credit card fraud, pay-per-click fraud, attack or break into computers, and hundreds of other illegal activities. We strongly discourage the use of open proxies as they provide no privacy or security and using them can result in increased exposure and liability.
• Proxy networks: Various proxy networks (Freenet, I2P, JAP, and TOR) feature layered encryption (sometimes called “onion routing”) and peer-to-peer networking to allow their users to communicate anonymously with each other. Rather than operate their own equipment, most rely on end-users to donate bandwidth and other resources to the network. They do not control the servers in their network and certainly a percentage of them are operated by malicious individuals for malicious reasons. Therefore any promises of privacy and security should be evaluated with this in mind. Also, these services have developed a reputation for being relatively slow.
• Proxy Software: Other subscription-based services offer client-side application software to automatically configure your browser’s proxy settings. Do not be fooled by these services as most are merely open proxies dressed up with a fancy interface.

A proxy server is a server that is meant to hide someone's IP. Your IP (Internet Protocol) is a number that is unique for every computer and it is static so you cannot change it when you messed things up. If a hacker finds out your IP he or she can get all your info if you are unlucky. This means that it is very important to hide this number. A proxy works like this: normally when you click on a link or a button, the browser sends the info to the web server. With a proxy the info will be sent to the proxy server first, and then to the web server. If the web server retrieves your IP, it will retrieve the IP of the proxy server, not yours. This also works from the web server to your computer. A counterpart of these proxies is that the owner of the proxy server can see all data (including passwords and credit card info for example), so install a proxy of someone you trust.

How to set up a Proxy

It is easy to set up a proxy, but follow the following steps very accurate, because a little fault can resolve into an unsafe proxy, or an error.

Step one: finding a good, anonymous proxy

The first thing you need to do is to find a good proxy. There are free and paid proxies scattered all over the net. Paid proxies are better most of the time (more anonymity), but there are good free ones also. Search for the best and most anonymous proxy that's out there. To help you a little, here is a list of free proxies. This list is updated every day. Transparent proxies are unsafe, don't use them. The best proxies are the ones with high anonymity. Choose one that you like.

Step two: install the proxy

After you found your proxy, write the IP and the port of the proxy on a piece of paper. The process of installing a proxy varies from browser to browser, so I will explain the installation process for Internet Explorer only. After you have opened Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options and then click on the Connections tab. Select the LAN Settings button if you have a LAN or DSL connection, or if you have a dial-up connection, choose your connection and click the Settings button. From there, enable use a proxy server and type the proxy IP and port in the address and port fields. Click OK twice and you're done.

Step three: monitor the proxy

This step is often forgotten by a lot of people. Proxies, especially free ones, tend to disappear, quit working or become transparent. Of course you don't want this to happen, so check your proxy every now and then (I recommend to check at least every month) to be sure you will stay anonymous.

I thought it would be better for this guide to be a bit more general, rather than going into details for each proxy script such as Zelune, Glype, PHProxy etc etc and making it easier for this small but informative guide to flow.

What is SEO

SEO stands for search engine optimisation (or with a 'z' as americans would put it, optimization) and is basically the process of optimising a website and building backlinks in order to increase it's rankings in search engines. It's definitely one of my favourite ways to build quality traffic to a proxy and can lead to a large amount of traffic over a small period of time if you know what you are doing. Don't expect great results to come instantly and add in a little bit of hard work and hopefully that extra traffic will start converting into some nice dollars.

Keyword Research

This is probably the most important part of the proxy seo process, get this wrong and it's going to waste you a lot of time with the next parts so pay attention. The aim of keyword research is to find keywords relating to proxies that people are actually using when performing searches on search engines like Google, Yahoo and Ask. If you are trying to rank for your own name go ahead, but its pretty pointless if it's not going to bring in any extra traffic, why? Because nobody was searching for it before you came along!

Some of my favourite keyword research tools include this ones from word tracker, one from SEObook and Google Adwords estimation isn't bad either. Using one of these tools we perform the following query: Proxy

What we see here is a list of keywords that people have been searching for on the Dogpile search engine, this is pretty accurate to what people search for using the more popular search engines. On the left of the keywords you will see how many searches are being used for those keywords (estimate), and as you can see there are a lot of searches being made on a monthly basis in the proxy niche. Now you may instantly think that you should try and rank for the term 'proxy', if so then feel free to go for it, if you dont mind waiting over a year to have any luck with such a keyword. Although it may bring the most potential traffic you should'nt go for something that is too difficult, some ones that come to mind to target include 'Bebo Proxy' and 'School Proxies' which bring less traffic but you are more likely to rank quicker for them and easier.

On-Page SEO

Now that you know which keywords you are targetting (make sure you are happy with them) you can start editing your website to help increase the chances to start ranking for those terms, the firs thing you need to look at is the title tag

Title Tag: The title tag is probably the most important place you should have your keywords and try to keep any other text to a minimum, an example title would be 'Bebo Proxy ~ ProxyURL', if you keep just the bebo proxy there that's fine but you also want to help people remember your URL in future so I tend to put the name in the title as well for branding purposes.

Meta Data: This is certainly not as important as the title tag but it's worth having meta information in place, meta information means the description tag and the keywords tag, they can be formatted like this:

< name= " description " content= " description goes here ">< name= " keywords " content= " keywords,go,here "> (without the spaces)
Content: Some people go over the top on this one and it's certainly not needed, I would put it more important than meta data but not as important as title data, it doesn't take much to add your keywords in all three so why not? I put the titles of all my proxies in 'H1' tags which is thought to give the words inside a bit more importance. You may notice this makes the text very large but this can be styled to a normal size via CSS. I also add the keywords somewhere in the general content just to keep the whole site relevant around one theme

Remember that on-site content will only take you so far and don't keep tweaking it if you are not ranking, its the next section (the backlinks) that are really going to determine which site outranks another!

Building Backlinks

Backlinks are crucial if you want to start ranking in the top 10 results in the search engines for anything that is even mildly competitive, they are what the search engines (particularly Google) use to determine how relevant, authoritive and quality a website is, after all they do want to return the best search results to their users. When building backlinks you want to link to the site with the keywords that you have chosen to try and rank for. For example if I wanted the homepage of this site (clickalite.com) to start ranking for 'Web Proxy' I would start linking to it with the relevant anchor text like this, Web Proxy. Now that it's clear, here's some places and ways to build links:

Squidoo / Hubpages - These are both sites where you can sign-up, create a page on anything you want and include any backlinks that you want. If you are going to sign-up create something relevant and informative, remember that these sites wern't made just for people to drop links so try to create something unique and interesting then you can add a link back to your proxy site
Directories - These are one of the most common ways to build links back to your proxies, instead of just going for 1000 manual directory submissions try and keep it to a smaller amount 150-300 or just go for relevant proxy directories which is something I tend to do. It can certainly have a negative effect if you build too many backlinks too quickly.
Link Exchange - This isn't something I recommend but it's definitely an option so I'm going to include it here. Basically it means agreeing with another webmaster that if you link to them, they will link back to you. I've seen sites rank well using this technique but when there's many other ways to get one-way backlinks why give our your link juice to anyone else?
Paid Links - Once again, something I personally don't recommend but it can work, it's probably not worth the effort for a proxy website as it can cost a lot of money to keep links going on a monthly basis and really cut into your profits
Write Articles - Articles used to be a great way to get backlinks to your site and they can still work, you can write them on any subject and start submitting them to article directories or relevant blog authors. If you are submitting them to article websites you can include a link-back to your proxy in the author section of the website. If you are contacting bloggers ask them to link to you if they are going to post the free article

Unlocking and unblocking MySpace using proxie

MySpace has exploded in recent years and people use it more and more to communicate and network online. Many networks block sites such as MySpace, intentionally or due to network limitations, and many users are aggressively trying to unblock MySpace and other favorite sites.

Unblock MySpace with proxies and finding MySpace unblockers

If you have tried to unblock MySpace using free Web proxies, you probably run into the same problem as everyone else. As soon as you find a new MySpace proxy, it gets blocked! Find another MySpace proxy, and it gets blocked too! So how can you unblock MySpace once and for all, and stop worrying about all these proxies?

You probably won't like the answer.

There really isn't a guaranteed way to unblock MySpace when your network administrator has decided to block myspace.com. A good MySpace unblocker won't always cut it. Firewalls and network rules will scan for the MySpace Web site and block it, so visiting MySpace directly certainly won't work. Some proxies out there work for a while but phrases like "myspace" and "proxy" still show up in the URL and are easy to find and block.

Myspace proxy administrators have tackled this with domains containing nothing related to MySpace or proxies, and this can help for a while. But eventually, the site will get used enough and become "red flagged" by the network admins.

The only solution is to continue your search for MySpace proxies on proxy top sites, proxy lists, sites like proxy.org, and in Google. When you find a proxy that works, don't tell the whole world! The more it gets used the more obvious it will become.

Overcoming the MySpace proxy problem once and for all...

I know you're still asking, there must be some better way. The only surefire way to unblock MySpace on your network is to talk to the system administrator about unblocking MySpace for you. Some administrators of school or work networks may be willing to work with students or employees and their superiors to find a mutually agreeable solution. For example, dedicated a specific terminal and time schedule for MySpace usage.

List the reasons why you would like to access MySpace from school or work, and try to work it into break times or between classes.

And not only are there hordes of kiddies trying to use them, real hackers and warez distributors are constantly hunting for fresh new sites to abuse. Yikes again.

Luckily, even though sites are continually blocked new ones crop up every day, and some Webmasters are trying to create stable proxy networks with many suceeding quite well. Proxy top sites, proxy.us and proxy directories can find you new proxies on a regular basis though.
