What does a proxy ?

A Proxy site is like an indirect browser that you can use to access blocked site through it. In school or work, administrator/employer blocks certain sites such as Myspace, youtube, Facebook or other entertaining site so that students or workers will only use the network for work purpose.

If you are one of the students/workers, you can visit a proxy site, then put whatever site you want to visit in the box bar in a proxy site. Then just hit Enter, you will be able to see the blocked sites.

Some people want to have fun even at work :D

How works a proxy

Internet Proxy servrs are deployed in most environments for security, performance, and usage tracking purposes. When your application makes a request to a resource on the Internet, the request is often routed through a proxy. The proxy then makes the request on your behalf and forwards the response back to you. This means that your application needs to know what proxy server to use when requesting a resource on the Internet. You can or use an explicit proxy server name or may take advantage of the automatic proxy detection capabilities.

Why a proxy ? to be anonymous

Many malicious hackers scan for IP's trying to hijacked your browser or obtain information such as credit card numbers, bank accounts, and other personal information that doesn't belong to them.

With the help of a proxy server you can eliminate that from happening. Proxy servers such as the ones found on this site can hide your IP from these intruders. These proxies act as a mask so that an ordinary program would not be able to acquire your IP. There are still ways that malicious hackers can obtain your IP and you can find more information about that on this site. Below is a brief description of what Proxy server really does.

A server that sits between a client application, such as a web browser, and a real server. It intercepts all requests to the real server to see if it can fulfill the requests itself. If not, it forwards the request to the real server.
